Location Profile: Dead_Zones (The Static Deserts)
- Sensory Atmosphere & "The Drain" The Look: A Dead Zone is the exact opposite of a Thin Place. It is an area where the "Hum" has been completely sucked dry by the Syndicate. These areas look grey, drained, and brittle. Plants don't grow, and metal rusts in minutes.
The "Static": Because there is no ambient magic, Static Wraiths are attracted to these zones like moths to a flame, hoping to find a "warm" soul to feed on.
The Sound: A low, agonizing "hiss," like a radio tuned to a dead frequency.
-
Geographical Utility The Wasteland: Dead Zones are usually found in the poorest boroughs or abandoned industrial sites (like parts of Croydon near the Tannery). They are used by the Ministry as dumping grounds for "Aetheric Waste."
-
Narrative Significance The Danger: For Randy, a Dead Zone means his high-tech MAS wand is just a fancy stick. He has to rely on Sprocket's "battery-powered" backups. For Alistair, a Dead Zone is physically painful—it feels like being suffocated in a vacuum.
