The Case Files of the DMC

Welcome to the Department of Magical Crimes.

In a Britain where magic is regulated, monetised, and quietly siphoned into London, reality is just another public utility—and someone is about to pull the plug.

Barnaby “Randy” Wickes is the Ministry’s perfect young officer: top of his class, devoted to regulations, and completely unprepared for the truth behind them. After one disastrous assignment, he is transferred to the DMC—the forgotten department where broken officers, impossible cases, and inconvenient evidence are sent to disappear.

There he finds Alistair Penhaligon, a disgraced veteran who knows the Ministry is hiding something; Sprocket, a brilliant technical menace with a talent for building illegal devices from household appliances; Mrs Gable, whose memory contains decades of secrets; and Pip and Pippa, twins who can communicate through resonance—and weaponise sarcasm with alarming precision.

Together, they investigate the magical crimes no one else wants to acknowledge: reality leaks, haunted infrastructure, impossible villages, forbidden networks, vanished evidence, and disturbances buried beneath the streets of London.

But their cases lead to something far more dangerous than isolated magical accidents. The Ministry’s supposedly benevolent system is draining the country to power a vast thaumic grid, while a hidden syndicate prepares to reshape the city itself. The more the DMC uncovers, the more clearly they see the truth:

The rules were never written to protect everyone.

Blending urban fantasy, British bureaucratic satire, conspiracy, found family, and darkly comic adventure, Casefiles of the DMCfollows a team of discarded investigators as they fight impossible enemies with unreliable magic, improvised technology, questionable paperwork, and the stubborn refusal to stay erased.

The cases are strange. The Ministry is watching. The city is changing.

And the Department of Magical Crimes is back at work.
